Saint George (April 23rd)

The church at Duncton is dedicated to St. Anthony and St. George.

Little is known about the life of St. George, although he was almost certainly a soldier fighting in the Roman army who was arrested and put to death for his faith in the persecution of Diocletian, c.304. His cult spread from Palestine, and it was probably there that he died. The story of St. George and the dragon arose at a much later date. He is the patron saint of England (and various other cities and countries).

Prayer from the Roman Missal

Lord, hear the prayers of those who praise your mighty power.
As Saint George was ready to follow Christ in suffering and death so may he be ready to help us in our weakness.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
